In 2000, BBC Radio 1 and Arts Council England asked Black Swan Media Director, Charles Kriel, to travel with BBC Radio 1 as their Artist-in-Residence. Challenged to create a visual component for the UK’s leading youth radio broadcaster, we suggested they hand over their live event video screens to our trusted care – and they answered with an enthusiastic “Yes!” Five years later, Kriel was still blazing a trail from Ibiza to Miami by way of the UK’s biggest festivals, having become BBC Radio 1’s first and only Resident VJ. Simultaneously performances as well as lifestyle branding experiences, Kriel’s VJ mixes are known throughout Clubland and broadcasting for both their aesthetic and technological innovation.
